 EPISTAR was accused of infringing Boston University's '738 patent and thejury of lay persons awarded the university US$ 9.3 million (about NT $300 million) in Nov. 2015. Epistar appealed to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (“CAFC”), and on July 25, 2018, in its written ruling, the appeals court found in favor of Epistar ruling that the trial judge should have declared the patent invalid so the judgement is reversed.

EPISTAR is pleased with the court’s judgment, and reiterates that Epistar respects intellectual property and is determined to defend its customers and the company’s best interest.
